A Journal of Arts and Literature Rooted in Western Maine

WELCOME

Rustica showcases the art out of being outside – out of the house, outside the mundane, or just outside accepted ways of thinking. As our name suggests, we provide a new take on antique ideas, taking the rust with the rustic, and seeing at the intersection of the pastoral and the passed-over an opportunity to describe a vibrant community that begins in Western Maine but doesn’t end there.

Our first issue contains poetry, essays and fiction by writers such as Jefferson Navicky, Jaed Coffin, and Jeffery Harrison, as well as an extensive craft interview with Morgan Talty. With beautiful cover art by Alan Bray, and elegant, accessible design, the magazine is an independent, heady, but welcoming place to consider the age-old question of living differently together – one that will attract readers of high-end literary reviews such as The Kenyon Review and Granta, as well as more general appeal magazines like Maine the Way.
